About Us



Matt Dix (Founder and Content Creator)
Matt has been a KS2 teacher for 15 years in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County, working in a range of year groups and lead roles, with curriculum responsibilities including music, computing and English. In a previous life, Matt was also a bass player in the early 2000s indie band Love Ends Disaster! and has also made maths, science and English songs and content for children in Key Stage 2 as the Founder of Manic Street Teachers.

Caroline Cawley (Music Specialist)
Caroline has been working in primary schools for 10 years in and around Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County. She has most recently been influenced by the Kodály method of teaching music which uses folk songs, Curwen hand signs, pictures, movable-do, rhythm symbols, and syllables. She has recently returned from a tour of the U.S.A. with rockers Church of the Cosmic Skull and fronts her own band Dystopian Future Movies.
Advisors and Experts
We consult regularly with a range of teachers and experts to ensure our list of musicians and subsequent resources link to the national curriculum, are diverse and representative in nature and meet the needs of our teachers and children by trialling content. Teachers and experts include: Deepa Vasudevan (Achievement and Equality Team at Nottinghamshire County Council), Emma Thomas (PSHE & SMSC Lead at St. Mary's RC Primary) and Emilios Georgiou-Pavli [pictured] (Music Lead at South Wilford C of E Primary). We are keen to adapt and improve the site so please contact us with further suggestions.

Coverage and Rationale
We have created our resources with diversity and cultural capital at its heart. Read about how our current crop of musicians are linked to a number of factors. We cover classical composers, traditions and popular artists from every continent but have also woven the 9 protected characteristics of the Equality Act, 2010 in our list of studied musicians.
